About Me

My photo
I'm a nerd at heart, but I think that planning is overrated and that spontaneity creates the best experiences. I can't make a decision to save my life and choosing my color of converses is about as serious as I can get on a day to day basis. And if I could eat ice cream for every meal, I would, minus my obsession with chai tea. Its a problem.

Catchin' Up: The Last Three Weeks

Here it is, blog entry number two. These last three weeks have been jammed packed with classes (aka the two longest classes you will ever experience) and a trip to Normandy and Brittany. But let me start at the beginning.

My host family, as in Collette, is shaping up to be pretty talkative. She constantly chats to me in French and she is shaping up to be a pretty great host, minus her cooking of omelets every so often. YUCK. Besides that, Collette is an interesting character, as in very strict and a tiny bit racist (ironic), but I’ve learned so much already that I refuse to be a pain in the butt and switch families. She’s taught me how to eat cheese and how to shower properly? Strange, I know, but these little things in Paris are definitely very different from home, and trust me, there is a proper way to do them. Also, when visiting Paris please ask how to use the shower first or you may end up flooding the bathroom like moi. Très embarrassing and not the best first impression!

As for classes; the semester officially commences tomorrow. I believe the first two weeks were a test to see if we could survive the semester. If you have ever heard Sabrinelle’s voice you would agree. I sat through her class, as in texted through her class, for four hours a day and listened to her hit notes only dogs can hear during lecture. Her class was interesting, but I’m glad that my long days with her have subsided…which is not entirely true. I’ll have to let you know how I survive five hours with her on Monday and four hours with her on Thursday. I might die. TEXT ME!

Now for the weekends in bulk. The first weekend was a blur of orientations and roaming the city of Paris in search for clubs. I did have some minor success, but it was a little sketchy. Weekend number two involved spending way too much money, but having the best time at a discothèque on the Champs-Elysées. That weekend also offered free admission to all monuments in Paris as a kind of culture day for France. I climbed l’arc de Triomphe and I visited Hotel de Ville. They were both beautiful and free, which is clearly the best part. This last week and Saturday I spent touring Normandy and Brittany. The towns we visited were gorgeous, but my favorite was definitely the abbey/church/town/island of Mont St. Michel and the town of St. Marlo. They have wonderful stories behind them and the best views I have ever seen. In this area I also definitely enjoyed trying the gallettes (a pancake cookie) and the apple cider along with stories, museums, tours and explanations of World War One and World War Two. If you ever get the chance to visit France, Brittany is the place to go. Lastly, today (Sunday) I spent the day at Versailles. I am totally going to have to marry the Prince of England after today, so that it’s possible for me to live in a palace as luxurious as Versailles.

This is all I have for the moment, but I promise to write more often about my adventures. Hopefully there will be some crazier ones to come! À bientot for now
